*Asterisk Ride and Re-Staging

My dad always kids around about stuff that requires an “asterisk”. If you clean all the kitchen, but leave the dirty frying pan on the stove - asterisk. If you hike 15 miles, but get a ride across a busy bridge - asterisk. If you don’t fill out the entire crossword - asterisk.

So my bike riding this past week, requires an asterisk. We met a couple of our kids at our apartment in Florida for Memorial Day weekend. I biked 7 days in a row and they were great. I forgot, however, to bring a “I Ride For:” flag with me. I got a lot of miles in; there was a lot of riding against the wind; it was hot; but no flag. ASTERISK!

Then I got the results of my cancer re-staging. It was all good with of course an asterisk. There were 4 tests. 24 Hour urine - all clear. PET scan - all clear. FLOW marrow test - all clear. MRD - likely all clear, but not sure. With this last test, they only pulled 400,000 cells and need over 1,000,000 to get complete accuracy. With the the cells they did pull, there was no cancer, but they still did not pull enough. ASTERISK!

I think my dad knows that most people are ok with an asterisk. Usually I fall in line with him and don’t want any asterisks, but for this week and for this re-staging, I am perfectly comfortable. Zero out of 400,000 is good enough for me. Asterisk be damned. Ha!
