Bone Marrow Biopsy Prep

I got 24 miles in before work and before my Bone Marrow Biopsy today. Not enough votes to live stream it, but I will get some non-gory pictures.

A dozen or so people asked in the last couple days what the procedure is like. The fun way to answer is, “They drill a hole in my pelvis and suck the bone marrow out.” (Maybe if I make it sound more gruesome I will get bigger donations. Ha!) The reality is more like getting a cavity filled. Everything gets numbed with lidocaine. There is no drill - more like an old fashioned hand drill bit. When they pull the marrow I get a short “electric shock” down my leg. It lasts for a second or less. Then they bandage it all up and off I go. It takes 20 minutes or less. The worst part is actually pulling off the 8” x 6” band aid they put on. I made sure to shave as much of my back and hips as I could reach this morning.

So, no video today. Sorry. And there really is not much discomfort with the entire process. Sorry. And while I cannot exercise this afternoon, I can ask for more money. Sorry. (Well, not really.)
