If I Don’t Laugh I’ll Cry

This was a great book recommended to me by a teammate. With a couple exceptions, it is (I think) about the struggles of a typical millennial. There is crap that this generations has to deal with that GenX (like me) or the Baby Boomers got to skip. Sure we have our own crap, but it is different.

The first exception is that the author, Molly Stillman, inherits $250,000 and finds a way to spend it all in just a couple years. Not many get this kind of windfall. She, however, finds a way to spend $70,000 more with credit card debt and has to claw her way out of staggering debt.

The second exception is that Molly’s mom is Lynda Van Devanter. She is one of the nurses whose experiences inspired the story in The Women by Kristin Hannah. Lynda also wrote a book called Home Before Morning. (Just the title gets me choked up!) Molly’s mom died due to complications around being exposed to Agent Orange when Molly was in high school.

The book has it all. Laughter, survival, tears, complete despair, and the hopeful realization that we are never alone. A good read for any time.

SHINE!
