Birthday Ride

What a great day!

I woke up at 5:30am and knew I would not go back to sleep. So, I put on my bike gear and headed out with my lights at full blast. I never saw the sun rise, but I did see the pre-sun rise and it was amazing.

I thought I would ride around Torch Lake, which is about 45 miles. About an hour in I thought that riding around both Torch and Elk lakes might be fun - maybe 60 miles. Perfect! Since I am 59 today I should ride at least 59 miles. Then I thought well if I go that far, it is only a few more miles to a metric century - 63 miles would do it. When I got into Elk Rapids I realized that I would end up home around 68 miles. That’s a weird number so I went the long way back thinking I would end up at 70. I finally finished at 72. No, I never considered another 28 miles to get to 100. Well, I did consider it, but put my foot down when I got to our cottage. Clearly I am getting more decisive as I get older. Ha!

The rest of the day was a swim in the lake, a boat ride with a vegan BLT lunch, the Ice Cream Lady (believe it or not I have never gotten ice cream from a truck or cart running down the street), 2 hours of wood cutting, a shower (not that I needed one), dinner out with Jeri, and a big piece of Cherry Pie with a crumble top.

This is my kind of birthday. Does not get much better than this.

SHINE!
