Route 66 - October 29
We are now two full days into our trip. Our original goal was to get to the Pacific Ocean in 3-4 days, but we have only made it 91 miles from Las Vegas. Ha! LA looks a long way away.
We did, however, close the gap. We headed east and went back to Seligman, AZ. It looked exactly the same as it did 6 weeks ago. The big difference is it is much cooler. We ordered a hamburger and a shake and planned to sit at a picnic table to eat it. After 2 minutes we decided to eat in the van. 6 weeks ago we were looking for air conditioning.
Our big adventure today was driving the Sidewinder. It is 191 turns, sections of steep grades, and no guard rails. I was not looking forward to driving this and I for sure was not going to do it in the dark. Well, the place we were going to camp did not feel safe, so up the mountain we went as the sun was going down. We made it and tomorrow when we go into town (Oatman, AZ) I am getting the t-shirt!
