Day 7 - September 1, 2026
Route $66,000 - Arizona & New Mexico
Bike: 40 miles, 1,722’, 3 hours 15 minutes

What a beautiful day. Wow! It was a cooler start (I rode with a long sleeve shirt under my jersey) but sunny and much less wind. About 30% of my ride was on Route 66, and the rest was on I40. Pretty normal for this part of the world.

Just as I got into Flagstaff I could feel my back tire going flat again. I limped it into a Starbucks! What a great place to change a tire.

No touristy stuff today. Jeri had organized stuff much better than I had in the van; I got all my bike stuff ready for tomorrow; We went for groceries; had a great Chinese dinner (with lots of MSG); and strolled out the back of our RV park before settling in. Jeri was so lucky that she got two fortune cookies in the same wrapper.

Tomorrow is a longer day. 70 miles but only 800’ of climbing. 90% will be on I40. Head phones in and music up loud. I’ll be to Winslow in no time. I wonder if there will girl in a flat bed ford slowing down to take a look at me?

SHINE!
