Route $66,000 - Arizona & New Mexico
It is surprisingly hard to slow down. Good thing there are two of us on this trip. Jeri slowed me down this morning and I slowed her down this afternoon.
We both slept in until 7am. Ha! And despite not rushing (and me not pushing) we were still all packed up and ready to go by 8:15am. Fortunately Jeri had found a “Route 66” attraction only a mile from our RV Park.
The Blue Hole is a spring fed pond that is 60’ across and 80’ deep. It is crystal clear and is always 61 degrees. When we got there a family of 8 was swimming and jumping in. There were also a half dozen divers getting ready to go down (fire and police rescue). When Jeri asked if I wanted to go in, of course I said no. Once we were there and she saw the opportunity, she said “I’m going in.” (That mountain a couples days ago may have opened up the flood gates.) Clearly we both went swimming at 9am. 😆
Lunch today was at Big Texan Steak House. No neither of us tried to eat the 72oz steak in one hour. We each had a salad, split a baked potato, and a bowl of fried okra. The waitress was unimpressed. But we did buy a shot glass for our Michigan cottage and I bought a small piece of fudge.
At some point Jeri set us up at a camp site on the far east side of Oklahoma City. When I looked up how far we would have to drive Thursday, Friday, and Saturday it was only 300 miles per day. And we’re were going to get there right at dark. I talked her into a KOA on the far west side of the city. Just so happens we’re were right next to the famous Cherokee Trading Post on Route 66. While I did slow us down, it was an expensive move. Jeri had over an hour in the trading post. Yikes!
The trick tomorrow is to see how slow we can go 350 miles. Ha!

PS Fund raising goes all month or until I hit my goal. I’ll work on totals tomorrow while Jeri is driving. But as Jerry Reed sang, “We’ve got a long way to go and a short time to get there.”
