I Ride For: Steve
I Ride For: Steve
Just when I think, “This will be my last year of fundraising.” I get a “God Nudge”. A month ago this nudge came from a teammate from Team LiveSTRONG RAGBRAI. She mentioned in a comment that her brother had just been diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.
Through a series of messages back and forth Steve and I were able to connect via phone. Like all of us with Multiple Myeloma, Steve’s experience is much different than mine. Hopefully, however, like all of us with any kind of cancer I was able to be part of his new community.
Steve, as I rode with this flag I thought continuously of your question, “Will I ever have the energy you have?” I never came up with the answer. I do know that the induction medications are tough. I do know that your body is adjusting to a new “normal”. I do know that right now your disease burden is much higher than mine is or was. I believe in the power of a positive attitude, small short-term attainable goals, and a long-term BHAG (big hairy audacious goal). While this flag is done, I will continue to think of you making today better than yesterday and tomorrow better than today.
SHINE!
