Unreasonable Hospitality

This book was recommended to me at a customer dinner last October. (I put that in because if you send me a book, this is how far behind I am. Ha!) I did not have high expectations but I was blown away by what is possible.

Around the same time that I received this recommendation, Jeri and I were in New York City for a couple days. One afternoon I was on the internet looking for a vegan restaurant. The first one that came up was 11 Madison Park. I’m not a foodie, so really knew nothing but thought, What the heck. Let’s try it. They did not have any dinner reservations available, but I was already in their system so I looked for lunch. They did have availability. I set us up for 2 people and just before I was done I had to pre-pay. I thought this was weird, but hey, it’s New York! So I moved forward. The prepayment was $750. Was this a mistake? Nope. For lunch? Yep. We passed and went to an Indian restaurant.

BUT!

I had not read this book and knew nothing about this restaurant. I must say that I am now very interested is seeing what this kind of dedication to hospitality is really like. The examples Guidara gives throughout the book are mind blowing and not all of them are difficult or expensive. I loved the attention to even the smallest detail. Wow!

I highly recommend the book and maybe someday I will really splurge and try out the actual experience.
